Cover the Camel

At the beginning of December a group Key Stage 1 children took part in a work shop for able mathematicians. The problem solving activities gave the children the opportunity to work collaboratively together and to develop the skill of visualisation. 

In the first challenge the children were given 7 shapes and were told that each shape fitted somewhere in the picture. After much debate and several attempts each group completed the Tangrams.

Next the children were shown these (see below)

They were asked to cut out the pieces and move them around until each piece fitted inside the camel. At the end of the session each pair had completed the challenge.
